Oxfam Launches Online Vintage Shop

I like the idea of vintage, the history of the piece, the eco-vibe you get from reusing, but for me I hate the charity shop rummage. I know that is where some of the enjoyment is of getting hold of a great bargain but it just isn’t for me – so I have to say a huge thank-you to Oxfam for launching their own online vintage clothes shop. Vintage goodness without the hassle!

What makes it even better is Oxfam have categories their stock into decades, so you can choose from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, as well as by department, and everything you buy goes directly to the charity – like in the shops.

“The beauty of fashion is that it can be recycled and reused again and again, with a treasured item donated by one person offering endless possibilities for someone else,” Sarah Farquhar, Oxfam’s head of retail, said. “Our new vintage site is an opportunity for us to share some of the amazing items we have donated to our shops with an even wider audience and to raise more money for our work around the world.”

Check out the site as it is more than just a shop, there is some great reading, on trends of the decades, as well as advice and inspiration from guest style gurus including BBC vintage expert Katherine Higgins and Whistles CEO Jane Shepherdson.

I particularly liked the look of what the 60s had to offer especially as I saw The Boat That Rocked last night set in the 1960s pirate radio station frenzy.

There is lots of stock in various sizes and it also tells you what condition the item is in – there are definitely some bargains to be had – check it out at www.oxfam.org.uk/vintage!

Another vintage online shop I love is Love Miss Daisy offering hand picked one off vintage items from the 40s through to the 80s from across the globe. Make sure you also sign up for their newsletter – which tells you what’s new in stock, sale items and you might even get a surprise discount code.

Item I love which is currently in the sale is this Candi Jones vintage 1970’s lace wedding dress – only £55. Only two things wrong with this – I’m not getting married and sadly not a size 8!!
