I can’t remember the last time I went to see a show in London, that isn’t to say I don’t like them, I just haven’t been wowed in a while, so when I was invited to attend Forever Crazy from the legendary Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse I had high expectations and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.
When I saw where it was – in a car park on London’s South Bank, I am going to be honest I was a little worried, I shouldn’t have been as a purpose-built Spiegeltent was perfect, as soon as I walked in I really thought I was in a vintage cabaret theatre. I loved how the history and glamour of the Crazy Horse Paris took over – the walls covered with the vintage snaps of the gorgeous dancers, the dimly lit foyer with its plush velvet chairs and cocktail bar really captures the atmosphere you would expect with a naughty cabaret, and I especially loved all the lights – I want Peekaboo to adorn my wall!!!
For the 60th anniversary of the Parisian cabaret, Forever Crazy is a great insight into the main show featuring a compilation of their iconic routines performed by ten gorgeous and uber-talent dancers. The show covers everything from incredible choreographed group numbers, which I have to admit were my favourites, to solo performances, each one is sexy and seductive, some have a hint of humour about them, and all of them show off the dancers amazing bodies.
For 90-minutes I was completely hypnotised, these dancers really make you take notice from the opening number, “God Save Our BareSkin”, where a row of ten identical beauties wearing nothing more than a bearskin hat, knee-high boots and a bondage military-inspired suspender belt dance completely in synch. It is a serious wow moment!!!
This is a show that really uses the music and the lighting to great effect as well as the using the seduction and beauty of the dancers. There were a lot of highlights, I am not going to detail every routine but for me my favourite skits had to be “Upside Down”, the dancer really worked the mirror – I was memorised and “Legmania”, which totally made me want to hit the gym as I need legs like that.
If you haven’t been to Crazy Horse this is a great introduction to the crazy world of cabaret, granted I felt a little squeezed in sharing our tiny table at the front with two women who giggled like little school girls throughout, but overall I would definitely recommend it – maybe just go with three other friends so you don’t have to share!!!
