When discussing fashion designer/blogger Charlie May’s spring/summer 2014 collection I found myself repeating the phrases “minimal perfection” and “androgynous vibes”, which is fast becoming her signature aesthetic.
For SS14 there seemed an inherent confidence about Charlie May’s designs, keeping to her minimal aesthetic with a muted colour palette, sleek lines, and exquisite tailoring, while working textures including layered mesh fabric and cracked leather, as well as adding in vibrant metallic touches with holographic silver and a gorgeous blush pink hue.
Charlie’s inspiration was to her youth, mixing her nostalgia of the nineties with her tomboy roots and I loved the sporty vibes with the mesh layered dresses to the slouchy jumpsuit – but for me the highlight of this collection has to be the metallic pieces – that blush pink is divine and the dress with the cracked silver foil effect is incredible.
Everything about this collection was thought out and executed perfectly – from the oversized dresses with the raw edges to the sexy/sporty slips and the chic cropped leather jacket and matching pencil skirt. Each piece went perfectly with her gorgeous white slip on brogue that she has collaborated with Hudson shoes on.
I love that each season Charlie keeps on growing and for me she is a designer with a great future ahead of her. If you aren’t aware of Charlie May – head on over to her amazing blog – Girl a la Mode – get a behind-the-scenes look at her fashion label as well as her incredible style posts.
