Each winter my search for a timeless coat becomes harder, I have something specific in mind, colour, shape and length, and each year I fail miserably. This year, I decided to just go for something nearly perfect to see how I got on. The strange thing is, I didn’t think a brown coat costing less than £30 would be the one, I actually just thought it would be the one for just right now, but hey I’ve fallen in love.
This timeless coat is from New Look, yeah I wouldn’t have guessed either, except I was the one who bought it. It actually should be £39.99, but it has been on sale for like forever at £29.99 and it is a bargain buy. Not so keen on the light brown, I didn’t think I would be either, but I just thought it looked great worked with leopard print and cream knits. Still not sold on the colour, well, it also comes in grey, camel, and black, is it wrong I kind of want to buy them all?
So what makes it timeless? Well, for me the shape, the lapels are just perfect, I really love the rounded shape and longer length. Then you have the coat length, I like that it falls just below the knee, and then there is the colour. I think all of the colours make this a timeless coat, as the light brown, grey, camel and black will work no matter the trends. Then the other touches, like the side pockets, the belted waist and the longer sleeves, one of my pet hates with coats is that the arms are always too short, means that this beauty will be in my wardrobe for a good few years.
So this makes the third coat purchase this season, all in the search of ‘the one’. I’ve now got the statement beauty with my yellow duffle coat from Boden, this timeless coat is one everyone needs, and then I have a still yet to shoot lighter beauty with a gorgeous faux fur trim. That should be plenty right to get through winter? You would think, but I can’t stop thinking about a pink one – maybe one for the sales after Christmas!!!
What do you think – would you call this a timeless coat?
