Anyone else seeing red? Yep, the fiery shade was spotted across the autumn/winter 2017 shows from Givenchy to Armani, Max Mara, Molly Goddard, and Balenciaga, with red being the designer colour of choice for oversized knits, coats, dresses, and even accessories. If you are fed up of ‘millennial pink’ you are in for a treat as it is all about red this autumn.
With red being a hot trend I wanted to take one look from the catwalk and make my own to show you how red can work for you. It was hard thinking of just one ‘red’ look, there was a gorgeous oversized belted coat at Armani, the red dress of dreams at Molly Goddard, and plenty of red boldness at Roksanda, but for me, it was all about the chunky red knit seen at Balenciaga, this one on my ‘Red’ Pinterest board. It’s so wearable, it’s cosy, and even if you’re feeling bold enough for red, everyone can pull off this look. I also love the idea of chunky knit worn with a midi skirt.
The thing with red as a trend, there isn’t just one shade of red, there are so many to choose from, think scarlet, ruby, crimson, and even maroon, the only unwritten rule is to go bold, and for the brave that means head-to-toe, matchy, matchy. However, for me, I still love the idea of red teamed with denim, I love red and blue together, especially denim blue, and that’s how this autumnal look came together.
First off, I found the high street equivalent to that Balenciaga chunky knit, only £25 from Boohoo and it is perfection and feels so nice on, and then the bloody thing sold out before I could shoot and post, typical, everyone must have had the same idea. **Don’t worry I have some alternatives, just keep scrolling until the end**.
It is that perfect cherry red hue that I adore, and even though I might not be working the trend red-to-toe as it has been coined, I think this bold jumper does the trend well. It also looks so good with these girlfriend jeans I picked up from Tu at Sainsbury’s. This was actually my first clothing purchase from Sainsbury’s and I’m so impressed, the quality and fit of these jeans doesn’t match the £20 price tag.
Finishing off my red look are these gorgeous Emu Australia leather boots-come-trainers. I say that as they have a soft sole that reminds me of trainers and they are really comfortable. The colour isn’t quite matchy, matchy with the jumper, but as the bag was, I kind of like that they are slightly different. I like different tones of red together. Maybe that’s just me, but I think that it all works together to make a great autumnal relaxed look.
Are your braving red this season?

Going red options:
- Why not try a suit, go bold in a crimson shade, or opt for a burgundy hue in a velvet finish for an elegant look. Top tip, pair with white trainers for a more relaxed look.
- Try some red-toned florals.
- Think accessories – there are so many cute red boots out there, from over-the-knee to ankle boots, there will be a style and shade to suit you.
- Best wintery option – add a gorgeous red coat to your collection. You won’t regret it as it will brighten up any weather and look!!!
