Disney+ really couldn’t have come at a better time, I think it is safe to say, we all need a little pick me up right now, and even better when it is a nostalgic one, as Disney has brought together the very best from its incredible library of films and television series. This, of course, includes Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, so basically, you have a lot to choose from, but to give you a helping hand, here are the 10 things I’m watching.
The Lizzie McGuire Movie
Yep, I love Lizzie McGuire, I was a little too excited when Hilary Duff said she was making a return as the clumsy character, and even more devastated when the project stalled earlier this year. So, it was so amazing to see not only the Lizzie McGuire series on Disney+ but also the movie. If you haven’t seen it, I won’t judge (well much), but it is perfect to watch right now as it sees Lizzie catching all the sights in Rome, while also helping out a popstar. Seriously, what more could you want from a film.
The Parent Trap
The ultimate film for throwback feels has to be The Parent Trap, when Lindsay Lohan was all cute and adorable as identical twins Hallie and Annie, who discover while at summer camp that they were separated after their parent’s divorce.
Lady & The Tramp
First up, there is no such thing as too much dog content, I’m constantly retweeting cute dog videos and pictures, so the re-telling of the timeless 1955 Disney animated classic ‘Lady and the Tramp’, where a pampered house dog and a tough but lovable stray fall in love, is remade into a live-action, was high on my watch list.
High School Musical 1, 2 and 3
Because we are in this together! Haha, sorry, couldn’t resist. These are what I call cheesy comfort flicks, perfect for watching back-to-back with a stack high pile of chocolate – just make sure you sing along and maybe even give the dance routines a try, you know for the sake of some indoor exercise.
The beauty of Disney+ isn’t just all the nostalgic films and series, but also the new original content, and I love the docuseries they have, especially Disney Insider, which takes you behind the curtain of The Walt Disney Company. Each episode takes fans behind-the-scenes of movies, theme parks, destinations, music, and toys – it is basically an all-access pass into the workings of Disney.
Toy Story 1-4
To infinity and beyond. Disney+ has all the Toy Story franchise ready for streaming, including the latest instalment. There is a charm about these animated films, I do adore the camaraderie of Woody and the gang – just be warned the tearjerker of an ending – I wasn’t prepared and I want you to be.
Hannah Montana – the series and movie
Love a little bit of Miley they you will love all the Hannah Montana love on Disney+. You can rewatch from the start, see where it all started for Miley, sing along to the tunes, and see whether Hannah can really have the best of both worlds. Haven’t got time to invest in the series, don’t worry, skip right ahead to the movie, it is silly fun and perfect for what I call a Sunday afternoon chill.
Star Wars makes up a huge chunk of Disney+ and alongside the films is a Disney+ original, The Mandalorian set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The series follows a bounty hunter operating in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. Expect action-packed gunfights, crazy aliens, a touch of humour, and best of all, a Baby Yoda.
The World According to Jeff Goldblum
I may be a little in love with Jeff Goldblum and fascinated with how his mind works and this documentary series is literally centred everything he loves from ice cream to sneakers.
Each episode is a fun and humorous history lesson into popular culture – so be prepared to be Jeff Goldblum amazed at everything from denim to jewellery, cosmetics, tattoos, BBQ, bikes, coffee and pools.
Marvel, Marvel, Marvel
I love an action film, especially a Marvel film, and it is so nice to have all my favourites in one place, and I can’t suggest it enough – why not rewatch them all in chronological viewing order – you won’t regret it. Just a little note not all of these are on Disney+, like the Hulk and Spiderman films – but everything else seems to be.
