I get a lot of inspiration for the house from staying in hotels, the fancier the better, and I especially like to bring a slice of the five-star treatment to the bedroom, you know, the kind that is worthy of lying in way past checkout time, and for me that starts with the bedding.
At the heart of any bedroom has to be a bed that you never want to leave. I love to sleep, as well as binge-watch my favourite TV shows, and good quality bedding really makes a huge difference when you want to relax in bed. For me, there is no better feeling than getting into a giant bed with fresh white sheets when you’ve had a long day, and that’s at the centre of my five-star bedroom makeover.

I didn’t have any particular hotel in mind when revamping the bedroom decor. I just knew I wanted to recreate that luxurious and comfortable feeling you get when you treat yourself to a five-star stay. Think cute plump cushions, super-soft bed linens and cosy throws on a statement bed, as well as warm lighting, candles, and plants. Plus, don’t forget the ultimate room service breakfast-in-bed set-up, as no 5-star hotel stay is complete without ordering food up to your room.
5 tips to turn your bedroom into a 5-star hotel room with Dusk
Invest in quality bedding
For that five-star treatment, you need to invest in quality bedding. There is a reason why I look forward to snoozing in a hotel, and it is generally because the bedding is soft and feels luxurious. Recreating that luxury feel at home is the key, and good quality bed linens will have you feeling like you are sleeping in a soft cocoon. My latest discovery has been DUSK. I’m obsessed with its luxurious and timeless designs and the fact that they have pure cotton sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers that will stand the test of time, and even a dog and a cat!!!
Crisp, clean white sheets give an instant feeling of luxury and pure cotton, high thread count linen, not only feels amazing on your skin but will also help regulate temperature and moisture levels. I love my Mayfair Grey duvet set from DUSK, you instantly feel wonderful when you settle into bed as it is in a super-soft 100% Egyptian cotton sateen, in a sumptuous 400 thread count. I also love the elegant but simple touch of the grey cord, it elevates the stunning white design and adds that 5-star treatment I was after.

Add cushions and throws for ultimate comfort
Incorporating different textures, with scatter cushions and decadent throws can instantly give your bed a hotel feel. I’m under the belief that you can’t have too many cushions. I did have three rows, then Falcon stole one, the cat sat on another, and my husband instantly said no way. So, we compromised, and the lovely textured zig-zag beauties I picked up from Dunelm made the cut.
But for me, the ultimate comfort is a gorgeous throw/bedspread, and I opted for the quilted silver-toned DUSK Vienna. I just adore the soft stitched quilting and the matte finish. Plus, it adds subtle colour and warmth to the crisp white bed linen.

Choose a statement bed
The bed is the focal point of any bedroom, and I just love it when I stay in hotels with four-poster designs or beds with amazing, upholstered headboards. Our old house, with its beautiful beams running through our bedroom, wouldn’t cater for a full four-poster bed with a canopy design. No matter how much I tried. So, I went with this open-top design, which still has the sense of grandeur we were looking for while also being light and airy. I also loved the decorative detailing on the headboard and tips.

Opt for warm, soft lighting and a touch of lavender
Warm lighting gives an elegant, relaxed feeling. Try opting for bedside table lights with soft fabric shades, and add floor lamps to create a warm mood, rather than using the main light. Especially good for those nights when you just want to snuggle under the covers and watch a movie. Also, check out Philips Hue smart lighting bulbs, I love that you can sync with Alexa, and change the colours.
Got the lighting sorted, don’t forget the scent. I love using candles, sleep sprays and diffusers to transform my bedroom. You don’t want anything too overpowering, which will irritate you as you sleep. I like to use lavender, as not only does it smell divine it is also known for helping you sleep.

Don’t forget breakfast-in-bed
You can’t have a five-star set-up without breakfast-in-bed options, and I love a breakfast tray with legs. It makes me more confident to bring my fancy Yvonne Ellen tea set up to the bed, especially with Falcon and Peggy also wanting to get in on the lazy start to the day. I just can’t promise that you will always have someone to bring you tea in bed.
Want your own Yvonne Ellen tea set? This is the Tiger ‘Ooh La La’ Tea Pot, the Cheetah Cup & Saucer, and the Tiger Sugar Pot.
For options for bed trays with legs – I love the look of these beauties.
