This was a show that I was so excited about as it was my first over at On|Off and more importantly it was Louise Grays first solo catwalk show, entitled Get Some Stuff.
First up the venue, I loved the fact that the catwalk space is set out as a u-shaped, this was the first time I had been to a show where it set as with the standard straight line, and it totally made it more intimate and the view was amazing where I was seated. My first thought when I saw this gorgeous, bright and fun collection was for my rag doll I had as a child, as the clothes Louise sent down the catwalk had lots of draping, patchwork and textures – basically a punk rag doll chic to it.
It was a fun and playful show which certainly utilised the ‘Get Some Stuff’ title to her spring/summer collection as her clothes were embellished in some amazing things; bottle tops, sequins, polystyrene balls, party streamers inside PVC skirts, mirrored tiles, neon plastic shop tags as well as traditional beading – of all it creative and gorgeous.
It is a quirky collection that I enjoyed seeing, there were some pieces that were completely wearable such as the spray-painted sweaters, catchphrase embroidered tops, tribal print shift dresses and silk patchwork dresses which I can see celebrities and the fashionistas wearing at festivals next summer.
The tribal print elements to this line really excited me, inspired by Trinidad and Tobago tribes such as the Makako, they really work – and I would love this print above as a t-shirt. There were a lot of pieces I loved, but it was the quirky styling touches which will stand-out as one of the best shows I will see this fashion week I think. From the painted on white socks *took me a few models to realise*, the lilac raffia Mohicans by Nasir Mazhar, the pvc bags filled with retro sweets, and I couldn’t forget the gorgeous heels made especially for her Pollini brightly-coloured rubber heels designed by Nicholas Kirkwood.
