Royal Wedding: Catherine Middleton Channels Grace Kelly

There has been lots of speculation and excitement surrounding the Royal Wedding over the past few months, and finally today the glorious occasion took place, and Prince William married his sweetheart Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey.

I have to admit I am not a Royalist, but even I couldn’t help getting caught up in the spectacle, and I have to clearly state today I felt extremely proud to be British!

For me, and everyone else on Twitter it seems, it was all about what Catherine was going to wear, and she really didn’t disappoint. As the bookies predicted Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen did design an exquisite and elegant gown for the special day.

The dress for me had a vintage feel about it, very similar to the one that Grace Kelly wore to become Princess of Monaco in 1956, and it was everything you could wish for in an elegant wedding dress. The structured gown was made with ivory and white satin gazar, which was perfectly accented with a form-fitted lace bodice and shoulders, and had a two-metre 70cm train and a simple-yet beautifully draped veil, which was kept in place by The Queen’s 1936 Cartier ‘halo’ tiara.

Everything about this dress was simply stunning; from the French Chantilly and English Cluny lace, which was embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework, to the 58 gazar and organza covered buttons fastened by Rouleau loops, which went down the back.

It is a sophisticated, elegant and a contemporary iconic gown, which I am glad to say was very in keeping with Catherine’s personal style, which I appreciate and admire. Catherine Middleton’a gown most certainly was fit for a princess!!

“It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress, and I have enjoyed every moment of it. It was such an incredible honour to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created. I am delighted that the dress represents the best of British craftsmanship,” Sarah Burton, Alexander McQueen.

My pictures don’t really do this wedding dress justice, but seeing her walk in it gave me goosebumps, a spectacular event and the gown lived up to the ‘Dress of the Century’ title being quoted before the big day.
