I have loved so many collections for the AW11 season, the colour explosion from Dorothy Perkins, the ladylike pieces at Miss Selfridge, the embellished collars at Oasis, the retro vibe from River Island, and the squirrel jumper at Matalan. Well I have to add one more to that list as I was completely blown away by everything at New Look. I can predict my future and I am going to be very skint come the end of the year!!!
From 70’s sirens to a return to 30’s pre-war decadence, with a mixture of cosy knits and a nod to the 60’s modern look, this autumn/winter collection really is delightful.
Electric Lady:
Think glamour and luxury, this is a collection with faux fur trims, satin dresses and decadent lace, rounded off with high splits, plunging necklines and backless tops. So sexy, sexy, sexy!!!! My favourite piece has to be this star print pussy bow dress, you will see a lot of star prints come autumn, but this dress is cute and only £27.99, it also comes in a maxi variety as well.
Modernist:
I like modern looks, and for AW11 New Look’s nod to the 60’s the collection has a masculine twist. Think skinny trousers, structured skirts, contrasting panels and collars, and great pieces with leather sleeves and piping.
This is sleek tailoring at its very best, and I adore the colour palette of neutral shades mixed in with flashes of scarlet and cobalt. A strong but very wearable collection.
Age of Nostalgia:
This is my favourite of the collections, full of retro-inspired bird and botanical prints, high on my wish list has to be this bird print tea dress, £24.99. This look is best describes as ladylike heritage and I love it. I want all the pussy-bow blouses and brogued heels.
Cocktail Bird:
This was the only line I wasn’t as keen on, it is very flapper meets prom queen, which just isn’t me. Full of ornate beading, delicate pleating and lots of sequins, in a colour palette of champagnes, nudes and peaches, mixed in with emerald and gold shades. I am sure this collection will do well come the party season.
One of my favourite pieces was this sequinned adorned skirt as it kind of reminded me of the Stella McCartney skirt that Jennifer Garner wore back in September.
Limited Edition:
Tucked a little bit in the corner at the press day was the luxe limited edition collection, which takes inspiration from the glamour and femininity of the 20’s. Flapper dresses galore with lots of sequins and scallop edge detailing, and the most gorgeous colour palette of vibrant yellows, teal, and shimmering metallics.
Accessories:
Flowers, stars, love hearts and Navajo look amazing on the great handbag collection for AW11.
Favourite jewellery pieces have to be these rings, owl’s are everywhere at the moment and continuing for autumn, and this ring is perfection.
