Barbie has always been in the forefront of fashion, always incredibly styled and seems to have ever hip designer on her speed dial, and even as I type her Dream Closet is going down a storm during New York Fashion Week. I think it was because of her unique tie-in with fashion that the lavish Barbie Fashion Model Collection was born back in 2000, and twelve years on the collection is going strong and has just launched its most glamorous range of dolls to date.
The ‘Atelier’ themed collection, designed by Robert Best, was inspired by the great fashion workshops of Europe and perfectly captures the essence of high fashion. Each Barbie has the most exquisitely crafted outfit from the Chanel-inspired two-piece above, to the floor-length gown worthy of the Oscar red carpet to the intricate and beautifully tailored houndstooth peplum dress – each one is simply tres chic!!!
My favourite of the collection has to be this very chic, very Parisian Barbie doll – everything from the houndstooth check to the coordinated bow scarf and elbow-high gloves, to the gorgeous Barbie hat box and that oh so glamorous black mesh veil – this is one high fashion doll and I love it.
The original ‘Atelier’ miniature sets are on currently on display as part of Studio P.H. 8442’s Portrait of a Hollywood Dressing Room installation, until February 29, where select 2012 Barbie Fashion Model Collection dolls are also exclusively available for pre-order. Such a shame that the exhibition is in LA as I would have loved to seen these beauties up close.
