I am always a little hesitant on blogging too many New York Fashion Week shows especially as I am not there in person, but I couldn’t resist posting these gorgeous gowns from the Monique Lhuillier autumn/winter 2012 collection showcased yesterday. I think I was in the minority when I loved Sarah Michelle Gellar’s blue ink swirl gown worn to the Golden Globes, but one thing that no one can dispute is how absolutely striking Monique Lhuiller’s floor-length gowns are – and I am sure after yesterdays show a number of high-profile stylists are trying to pull these looks in for their clients for possible Oscar options.
Sticking to a colour palette of mainly red and black, apparently inspired by the fact that it is the year of the dragon, there were some gorgeous fiery prints mixed in that was inspired by lava and volcanic stones and I just loved the vibrant red lippy and sleeked back hair. The whole show was just exquisite and I just loved all the long and lean silhouettes and I hope that a couple of these beauties make the Oscars.
Black always features on the red carpet at major award ceremonies and this collection was full of elegant black floor-skimming gowns. I loved the mix of sheer chiffon skirts, sheer mesh panels, lace detailing, and sexy thigh-high splits. I could totally see Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon, or even Emma Stone working these gorgeous gowns – classics with a sexy twist always gets my vote.
These two dresses are my outside bets for the red carpet, I just love the colours, the textures and the silhouette of the volcanic rock print is just divine – I love the leather corset belt nipping in the waist.
