It has been a while since a magazine cover actually excited me like these Tim Walker masterpieces for W Magazine’s annual movie issue featuring the top nominees ahead of the award season. Walker has snapped 39 nominees from Emma Stone, looking like a broken doll, to Julianne Moore, looking like she could be sisters with Effie from The Hunger Games, and even a very creepy Bradley Cooper dressed in a white.
There are 7 amazing covers, but for me the standouts have to be Emma Stone’s and Reese Witherspoon, I really love the ’70s free-love aesthetic, and seeing movie stars transformed into eccentric characters is just an another reason why Walker is a master at bridging the gap between fashion and art.
As well as the covers the accompanying editorial is just as strong with Jessica Chastain, Amy Adams and Shailene Woodley looking equally eccentric. I love that magazines like W Magazine take a chance with Walker as these images wouldn’t look out of place in an art gallery, I actually think that is where they belong, they deserve to be hung up on walls.
