Workplaces have always been a fascination, I have Pinterest boards dedicated to desk set-ups, offices and studios, so when I got the chance to see inside one of my favourite designer’s studio I jumped at the chance, and it was such a delight. Bora Aksu‘s studio is eclectic, fun, quirky, jam-packed, and so divine, well I would say that as I think he has about the same amount of dolls as I do.
OK, so I’m more of a Barbie girl, but I was so giddy looking over Bora Aksu’s incredible vintage doll collection, even if some, OK most, are a little creepy, it was strange some of them totally make you think they are following you around. I do love how they are all lined up, squeezed into boxes and hanging from the wall. I don’t know why but the addition of dolls just adds to the charm of Bora Aksu’s studio.
It was also cool seeing how the designer has utilised the space inside the Westferry Studios complex, which houses a number of fashion designers and creatives. Bora Aksu has taken over every inch of the compact space and made it functional, there’s room for his office, seamstress, team of interns, as well as somewhere to hang-up past season collections and his shoe collaborations for the runway, display old copies of Vogue, as well as cute knick-knacks, and mannequins that Bora has rescued and styled up as the mood suits.
I was also pleased to see lots of Bora’s sketches, he really is a talent illustrator as well as a fashion designer, trust me if you don’t follow him on Instagram you should because his eerie drawings of his Bora girls really are beautiful. If I could have his art dotted around my office I would!
