I do love fashion with a heart, a brand that champions a charity, a cause or educates a new way of buying, I’m not talking about the one-off charity collaborations, granted they do good, for me it’s about those brands that put giving ahead of profit, one such brand is Jollie Socks, a more-than-profit enterprise that designs incredibly fun socks, who doesn’t love vibrant stripes, while also supporting local homeless charities with its ‘wear a pair, share a pair’ ethos.

So, for every pair of socks bought, which FYI come in the most adorable colour-specific can packaging, Jollie Socks donates a fresh pair of socks to a local charity through its network of 30 homeless charities and projects in Britain, all of which have been chosen for championing long-term tailored support for homeless people focusing on their rehabilitation into independent and sustainable futures.

What makes this sock company even more incredible is that it was set up by founder Ed Vickers, while he was still a final year student at the University of Exeter. Seriously what did you do in your final year at uni? I can tell you now I wasn’t setting up my own business.

A fresh pair of socks may seem like a small step towards tackling homelessness, but I love the fact that Jollie Socks and the people who support the brand and buying the socks are doing their bit to help support people who sleep rough. When you think about the clothes you have donated to charity, when did your bag include a pair of socks? It isn’t something we consider, and apparently sock donations are low and in great need, and a fresh pair of socks can really help fight against foot hygiene among homeless people.

So, I’ve shared the Jollie Socks story, but are these brightly coloured socks any good? For me, who loves packaging I was sold straight off, the recyclable tin can is so cute, I love that each one is colour-specific to the socks inside, and I knew instantly I was going to re-use them – I’m thinking for my make-up brushes, pencils on my desk, and even loose change to save my pennies, the possibilities are endless!!!

Back to the socks. I do love colourful socks and these ones are bright, especially my favourites ‘The Joker’ with pink, blue and yellow stripes, which not only cheer up a rainy day, but they are oh, so comfortable and cosy, made from 80% cotton, 20% nylon for a super soft finish. Plus, to top it all off all the socks are made here in the UK and are ethically sourced and stitched, so you can be guaranteed that they are going to last. When you think fashion with a heart it’s hard not to be blown away by this brand, it’s kind of like the Toms of the sock world, and it’s good to see more brands coming through with charity at its heart.

When it comes to design you have a few options, the ‘Originals’ are the stripy socks, then you have the slightly muted ‘Speckled’ and coming soon will be the ‘Twisters’ that have fun patterns on and made with eco-friendly dyes. I basically want them all. You can buy Jollie Socks direct from Jollie Goods online or there’s a selection also available at John Lewis, each pair costs £15.
