London Spots: The Arch London – Afternoon Tea

What makes a great afternoon tea? Well, for me, it’s a combination of location, crockery, the prettier the better, quality scones, and fancy looking cakes, and The Arch London certainly checks all those boxes. This hotel is a stone’s throw from Oxford Street, Bond Street, and Hyde Park, it’s literally behind Selfridges, so you could totally make this afternoon tea part of a shopping day, and it will certainly finish off any day in London perfectly.

I went with Jaclyn, you know the fabulous Bumpkin Betty and we totally lost track of time chatting away munching all the great food, especially as they put us in a secluded booth where you can close a sheer curtain for a little extra privacy, which is a nice idea.

The Arch London also gets extra bonus points for having the prettiest tea set, this dreamy multi-pastel coloured Wedgwood tea set literally needs to be part of my collection. To be honest, all afternoon tea’s should be served on pink plates, OK, now I’m being silly, but just look how fabulous it looks, I just love how all the plates, tea cups and tea pots have slightly different prints on. Miss-mash chic. Love it.

When it comes to the afternoon tea selection, the hotel does a number of different options for all occassions, there is a baby shower one, and a Royal one, all serving treats like Vanilla cupcakes, handmade marshmallows, jammy dodgers, Battenberg cake and chocolate orange tea cakes, which were my favourites, seriously delicious.

For the savoury lovers, the finger sandwiches feature all the classics such as honey baked ham and piccalilli, egg and cress, cucumber and cream cheese, and coronation chicken, there were also some very scrummy Stilton cheese straws.

On top of all that, you also have the scones, which were served warm, just how I like them, and were perfectly moist with just the right amount of crumble. The only thing you need to think about is whether the clotted cream goes on before or after the jam. I have, to be honest, I kind of like it both ways.

Afternoon tea at The Arch London is priced at £25 per person or £38 with a glass of Tattinger Brut Reserve, and can be enjoyed in the hotel’s Martini Library, Hunter 486 restaurant or Salon de Champagne lounge.
