How Do You Get Out Of A Style Rut?

How Do You Get Out Of A Style Rut?

Have you ever had that feeling that a piece of clothing just gets you? It kind of says what you are feeling. For me, recently it has to be this Izabel London wrap maxi skirt, it’s kind of a contradiction, part Boho chic, part rock chick, with a whole lot of cuteness in-between if that’s at all possible. You see it is because I’m a little all over the place with my style. One day I want edgy, the next cutesy, another minimal, and then the other day I even wanted full on French chic, the Breton stripes, the red beret and black capri trousers. I’m in that style rut, where everything I wear feels good for that day, but the next, it doesn’t feel like me. I think I’ve lost what my style is.

I think a lot this has to do with the move, most of my clothing was boxed away for a good month before the move because of a delay, and since moving in a month ago, some of my clothes are still stacked in a corner in what will become my walk-in-wardrobe as the room doesn’t have enough storage, rails, draws, or any organisation yet, that a pile on the floor is as good as it gets, so I keep finding the most random combinations and just going with it. This isn’t probably something a fashion blogger should be declaring, but I just can’t seem to find my style, and I need to revitalise myself to get out of this style rut but can’t seem to figure out how.

I wish that the solution was just hitting the shops and buying a whole new wardrobe, I come close, and then I remember I’ve just bought a whole new ‘forever’ house and I have to pay the mortgage. So how do you get yourself and style back on track without splashing the cash? Answer on a postcard please as I’m still trying to figure it out.

I did consider trying on every piece of clothing while organising my wardrobe, I started and it made it all so much more complicated, and sad that some of my favourite pieces didn’t feel right on. I then decided to get rid of items I didn’t like anymore, there was definitely more on the hate pile that love, which isn’t going to work as I’ll have nothing to wear, and then I thought, what’s so wrong with not having a signature style for a while, what about just having fun and mixing it up. So, until I figure it out, my style posts will be a little unpredictable. I just want to feel the moment, rather than live by the Insta-grid, which is probably where this whole style rut stemmed from, but I think that’s for another rant!!! You know, I want to bring the fun back into producing these style posts for you all, as well as discover what kind of style I have now with my new life. I think changing too much all at once isn’t good so I’m just going to go with the flow and have a little fun.

With all that rant I totally forgot to share the details of this look. First off this skirt, I love it, so much fun being a rock chick señorita. It is from Izabel London, a new discovery for me, and I love how playful the wrap skirt is and versatile, you can dress this up and down, however, you want to wear in that moment. I think it looks pretty cool with these studded boots from Ego and the Chloe dupe bag I love from Mango. But I’ve also worn it with espadrilles and a white Bardot top for a softer, more summery look.

So, how do you get out of a style rut?
