Day Tripping To Deal in Kent

Day Tripping To Deal in Kent

Since moving to Kent less than a year ago I’ve really been won over by all the gorgeous seaside towns, from Folkestone to Dymchurch and Margate, as well as the most recent being Deal, where I basically dragged my husband for brunch in what turned out to be the tiniest cafe, which of course didn’t have any room for us. Saying that it was the best way to get to see this cute town as we had to wander around until we found somewhere to eat.

My top 3 things to do in Deal:

Deal Castle

This really is a must, as it is a little unusual it kind of looks like a flower from above. It is one of three fortresses constructed by Henry VIII along the Kent coast line. It also has great views across the Deal sea front.

Walk down the Sea Front

I love a walk down the sea front, no matter where I am, but there is something extra pretty about Deal, you have the wooden pier, beach huts, fishing boats, adorable Georgian houses along Beach Street, its Art Deco shelters, and you can’t miss the Grade II listed Time Ball Tower, which ships relied upon for an accurate time check.

Deal’s Old Town

This is where the Instagram magic happens, the Old Town is full of charm and packed with independent shops, as well as great cafes to stop and have a cuppa and a slice of cake. Simply give in and just wander through the narrow streets, see all the colourful pretty houses, try and figure out which ones include secret passages, apparently a lot of the ones on Middle Street, used by smugglers back in the day, and just enjoy the sea air.

Have you ever been to Deal? Would love to hear your recommendations.
