There are big jobs that still need to be done in our ‘Forever House’ like sanding the floors, revamping the bathroom, painting everywhere and doing new fencing, but it is also important not to forget the little touches that can really make quick and immediate results, such as sprucing up your entryway with a personality-filled doormat.
I love a slogan doormat, we used to have one with ‘Spokes Household’ that we were kindly given for our wedding, sadly after a couple of years use it didn’t quite have any writing left on it, so when Wayfair asked if I wanted to take part in their doormat campaign I couldn’t say no.
When it comes to a doormat, whether it is a fun design or not, it has to be great quality, especially when you have a Falcon dog, he loves to scratch and sleep on the doormat, even though he has his own fancy dog bed, and I love that the minimalist ‘Smile’ design that I chose is made from natural coconut fibre. Which means that it will last longer, trap more dirt and shed less all over my kitchen, and it has an anti-slip PVC backing meaning it grips the floor better, so whether I keep it outside or inside it won’t slide when you step on it.
Aside from all those practical reasons, seriously doesn’t it just make you smile. As well as the new doormat, I’ve also added two vintage urns with some bedding plants in to frame the doorway, which Falcon feels are there to be nibbled on, I’ve strung up some cool solar lantern-style lights, which are so much brighter than you think they are going to be, and I have put my elephant decoration that my mum got me on the cane to help my beautiful red rose grow up at little.
The tiniest of things really do make a difference and I just think it makes the entrance a lot more inviting.
