Looking for a healthy vegetarian and vegan-friendly hangout, with great options for meat lovers? Well, you need to check out The Skinny Kitchen in Canterbury, with its fabulous juices, delicious burgers, incredible sweet potato burrito, and a great all-day brunch menu with pancakes, avocado on toast and sweetcorn fritters.
This was my first time at The Skinny Kitchen, it is one of the places I walk by in Canterbury all the time and it is always so busy, especially in the summer when the weather is nice as it has seating outside, so when Kirsty and I met up we were so happy to get a table for lunch.
First up, whether you come for breakfast, brunch/lunch or dinner, always go for one of their juices or smoothies as they are incredible, refreshing and so delicious. Go-to Smoothie would be The Skinny Bunny with pineapple, banana, mango, spinach, lemongrass, and coconut milk, prefer a juice, I love the Sherbet Lemonade with apple, lemon and lime. They also do a selection of protein shakes, give the Judy Dench a try with spinach, avocado, banana, vanilla PhD, dates, and soy milk.
Breakfast at The Skinny Kitchen
Drinks sorted, now onto the food. If you come for breakfast you have to go for high in fibre vegan spelt pancakes, peanut butter and jam sounds delicious, as does matcha and berries with matcha ice cream, fresh berries, pomegranate, coconut crumble, chia seeds, and mint.
Fancy something savoury? Well, they have eggs galore – from scrambled to Turkish, as well as eggs benedict and salmon eggs. They also have fritters on the menu, go for vegan or sweetcorn, or why not try an acai bowl or its signature sweet potato and kale hash with a poached egg, smashed avocado, asparagus, and tenderstem broccoli. So many options to start the day right.
All-Day Menu at The Skinny Kitchen
I do love a place with an all-day brunch menu, as I really can eat breakfast at any time of the day, so all the breakfast dishes I mentioned are on offer, alongside a light lunch menu of flatbreads, cheese toasties, poke bowls and small bites like edamame beans and smashed avocado with tortilla chips.
But for me, you have to go for one of the burgers, from the stacked beef or soy burger in a brioche bun to the halloumi burger with apple tzatziki, and the cod burger topped with avocado, all of which come with heavenly skin-on chips and a homemade mayo to dip.
My favourite was the chicken satay burger, which was packed with Asian slaw, fresh onion, lettuce, sriracha mayo in a brioche bun. It was packed full of flavours and the pink bun was not only the softest I’ve ever eaten but come on we all appreciate how insta-friendly it is.
Want something a little extra add cauliflower wings with chipotle sauce or halloumi fries.
Dinner at The Skinny Kitchen
In the evening, the menu switches up a little to add Caribbean, Asian, Thai and Mexican inspired dishes including Coconut Curry with falafel or cod, Buckwheat Noodles with tofu or chicken, Jerk Bowl with chicken skewers and spicy rice and Tacos, choose from cauliflower, chicken, beef, soy, or salmon. This is all alongside the burger options. So many healthy options you might find it hard to decide.
Can’t get to the Canterbury one, The Skinny Kitchen is also in Ibiza, as well as in Ealing Broadway and Islington in London.
