I’m a lover of Christmas trees, I generally feel that there should be a rule that states at least one in every room, as then I would be able to showcase the many, many decorations I’ve collection over the years, as each Christmas I love to do a new theme, and this year is all about space, think twinkling stars, rocket ships, and even an astronaut Santa, thanks to the incredible selection gifted to me from Sass & Belle.
Over the year’s we’ve done fairytales, old favourites, traditional red and gold, our travels, technicolour, and angels – yep, I have so many I can fill a whole tree, but this year, with the anniversary of the Moon landing it felt fitting to have a Christmas Tree dedicated to space, as I love adding a playful twist on the festive season.
What I love about a theme, especially one that is so far removed from a traditional Christmas, is that you can have a little fun. For me, this all started with us picking up a cute felt dog astronaut from the gift shop when we went to see the Moon exhibition, it happened to be Sass & Belle and then I found that they are also a little space-race obsessed as they have so many cute pieces, so I reached out to see if I could display some of their playful decorations on my tree.
Thankfully they said yes and each one is more magical than the next, we have the On Top of the World Astronaut, seriously how cute, an astronaut sat on top of the Earth, and then we have the cat astronaut, because why the hell not, and you can’t have a space-themed tree without a rocket, and just look at this beauty with the tree on top and stars – it really makes a great centrepiece to the decorations, and I’m a little obsessed with space Santa and his wobbly belly.
When I do a theme like this, I try not to overpower the Christmas Tree, as for me it still has to be personal, you still want to share your traditions, those baubles you share each year, like my Macy’s ones from the year we got married and my priceless crystal angels, you just have to place them around your statement Space pieces.
I also think when you have five or six statements like these Sass & Belle baubles, you need some block colour, and that’s why I’ve added various shades of blue, white and clear, as well as lots of star-shaped decorations to balance everything out.
Plus, don’t you think the colour scheme reminds you a little of the night sky with the navy blues and the shimmering hues of the glitter baubles?
