Milkshakes at Mollie’s Diner in the Cotswolds

Mollie's Diner, American Diner, Diner, Cotswolds, Soho House,

Every time I see a diner, I instantly conjure up images of road tripping in America, neon signs, pancakes, hot dogs, and of course, milkshakes. Mollie’s Diner in the Cotswolds has all that with a side helping of coolness and retro charm.

Located in Buckland, along the A420, about 20-minutes from Oxford, Mollie’s Diner is more contemporary cool than kitsch. Inside it has blue leather booths, a black and white tiled floor, shelves of books, and even a chrome counter, while outside, there are Paris-inspired green chairs on the heated terrace. But would you expect anything less from the guys behind Soho House?

You can eat in, on the terrace or drive-through. As we had Falcon with us, we opted for outside, which meant that we had to go round the side on the busy road as there is no easy access to the outside seats with a dog, which was less than ideal. However, even on a wet November’s day, the terrace is undercover and has heaters, so better than any other motorway services we have been to with the dog.

The menu has a combination of typical diner food, from cheeseburgers to hotdogs, mac and cheese, rotisserie chicken and grilled cheese sandwiches to an all-day breakfast menu with full English, veggie breakfast, avocado and eggs on sourdough, and waffles, as well as salads, hot wings, and even grilled salmon.

For drinks, there are the classic shakes from Oreo, my favourite to chocolate, banana, strawberry and salted caramel to filter coffee, all the tea you can think of, the fancy coffees, and hot chocolate.

This is a menu for everyone, no matter what time of day you are visiting, with prices ranging from £5 for shakes to £15 for steak and fries.

What to eat at Mollie’s Diner

I went all sweet – so waffles and berries with maple syrup, with an Oreo milkshake. While, my husband couldn’t resist Mollie’s chilli cheese-dog, a beef hot dog in a brioche bun with mustard and onion with a side of fries, a giant gherkin, and a chocolate milkshake.

Out of everything, we both raved the most about our milkshakes – they were thick, tasty and piled high with cream. Just drink quickly before the paper straw gives out. I don’t know why, but there is something special about a milkshake, especially when you are on a road trip.

When it came to our food, I was pretty impressed with my waffle, even if I did struggle to finish them. The only thing I could say is I would have liked more maple syrup, I think an American-style jug would have done it!!!

When it came to the hot dog, my husband enjoyed it so much he could have eaten another one. Plus, anything that comes with a giant gherkin gets his vote. He also wished that we had visited Mollie’s Diner on the way to our hotel, rather than on the way home, so he could have added more sides to his order – particular the mac and cheese.
