I can never decide whether I prefer brunch or afternoon tea as my favourite meal. Either way, I’ve found a great little spot in Ashford, Leo & Sage that you have to check out if you love eating breakfast any time of the day.
Leo & Sage is an independent cafe located in Elwick Place, Ashford, opposite the Picturehouse cinema, and it serves up all-day breakfast, lunch, homemade cakes, pastries and gelato in the most adorable and relaxed atmosphere.
We decided to have brunch here before catching a movie and it was a great idea as the food is delicious. For breakfast, you can go for the traditional full English, avocado on toast, smoked salmon, granola, toast, and even potato and chorizo hash.

I decided to try the smashed avocado with cherry tomatoes, rocket, beetroot hummus, mixed seeds and pink ginger. It was a great choice, not only was it fabulously presented, you could tell that the produce was top quality, and I loved the beetroot hummus. But to be honest it was a hard choice as I was very tempted by the Shakshouka and did get a little food envy when I saw it come out to another table.
My husband opted for the smoked salmon with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce on toasted brioche bread. He said it was delicious and definitely not stingy on the salmon, his plate was overflowing. He also made a point of saying the poached egg was cooked to perfection.
The only thing missing from this brunch menu would be something sweet, I always love having pancakes, french toast or waffles.

To wash your food down, the cafe also has an extensive coffee and tea menu, as well as fresh local juices and soft drinks.
Not a fan of breakfast and brunch, Leo & Sage also have a great lunch selection of sandwiches, which can be served with fries. You can choose from sourdough or focaccia bread with fillings, including hummus with grilled vegetables and brie, bacon, caramelised onion and lettuce. They also do a soup of the day.
If you are just after a sweet treat, the cafe offers homemade cakes and its own gelato, which in summer will be a sure hit. There’s a jammie dodger flavour that I just have to try!
