Some designer collaborations just make me want to buy the whole collection, and JW Anderson for Uniqlo is one of them. Can you believe this spring/summer 2023 collection is his sixth year with the retailer? Time flies when you are having fun, I guess.
For SS23, JW Anderson is giving a lesson in preppy styling with a modernisation of classic British university sportswear, think cricket, rugby, and tennis, with knitwear, dresses, reworked sports jackets and summer tailoring. With 16 items for women and 12 for men, this collection is what I call a wardrobe-building capsule, as so many pieces can be styled together, layered over each other or worn solo.
“This season reworks our idea of classic sportswear, such as a traditional cricket cardigan alongside sports leggings or hand-drawn traditional British sporting team motifs on utility shorts and more traditional knitted polo shirts,” explains creative director Jonathan Anderson.
At the heart of this collaboration is comfort! From the cosy light cotton-linen blend cricket cardigan with its two-tone accent stripes to the cropped bra tank tops in Uniqlo’s soft, quick-drying AIRism fabric and the cute pleated striped tennis skirts and dresses.
What I’m buying from the Uniqlo x JW Anderson collection
If I could only get five things from the Uniqlo and JW Anderson collection these are the pieces I would snag, and each one is under £50.
The Cricket Cardigan.
Now this beauty comes in two colourways, navy with a green and white stripe or off-white with a black and red stripe. Either would sit nicely in a capsule wardrobe. Just decide which colour would work best with the clothes you already have. As for me, I love the navy. It is also a great price point at £49.90.
Love the style of the cardigan but prefer a vest, try the long cricket vest with a cable-knit body that can be layered over trousers or skirts. The price is slightly cheaper at £39.90.

The Sleeveless Dress
Probably my favourite item from the collection is the sleeveless shirt dress with a pleated skirt, which will look great layered under the cricket cardigan. This beauty comes in three colourways, light blue, dark blue or white, priced at £49.90 each.
The Pleated Mini Skirt
Love the dress style but prefer to opt for separates? Well, you’re in luck as JW Anderson has done a mini skirt in the same three colourways, which can be styled perfectly with his relaxed fit short-sleeved shirt for a full preppy look. Get the mini skirt for £39.90 and the matching or contrasting striped shirt for £29.90.
Cropped Bra Top
I’m kind of obsessed with Uniqlo’s cropped tops with fitted bras inside. They are comfortable to wear every day and double up as sportswear, perfect for yoga, and JW Anderson has even done matching leggings. The bra top comes in three colourways, pink, blue or black, to perfectly coordinate with the rest of the collection, priced at £19.90. The matching leggings are £29.90.

Striped Polo Shirt Short Sleeved Dress
For a dress that you can throw on and go, you need JW Anderson’s reinterpretation of the classic rugby shirt as a mini dress. Check out the wide striped pattern and the cute colourways. I can’t decide between pink or light blue, but if you prefer dark, there is also a navy stripe. Wear it on its own or layer it with jeans. The price is £39.90.
