One of my favourite models Lydia Hearst strutted her stuff today at London Fashion Week for Maria Grachvogel at Somerset House. The spring/summer 2011 collection focused on drapery and the cut, with floaty chiffon, silk and satin fabrics sent down the runway in a colour palette of silver, white, caramel, slate, canary yellow and bold hand-printed images of wolves, moths and the phoenix.
It wouldn’t be Maria Grachvogel unless the collection was a feminine, and it certainly was that with the fluid lines, soft tailoring and gorgeous draping. There were of course the long evening gowns she is famous for, but also high-waisted trousers, jumpsuits, flowing blouses, draped sleeves, below-the-knee shift dresses, slouchy pocket shorts, and beautifully draped-back blazers.
Of course for me the evening gowns are always going to be the stand-out pieces with this canary yellow one being one of my favourites. The colour is perfection and the draping is gorgeous – I could see this dress being worn by Angelina Jolie *praying/hoping* – it would look lovely on the red carpet.
Jumpsuits were seen on the runways in New York now Maria has continued the trend which is set to continue next year here in London. This biscuit colour worked well in this collection and looked amazing against the canary yellow, these high-waisted trousers paired with a silk chiffon t-shirt – love the colour combo.
But of course the model who stole the show for me had to be Lydia. I was so pleased to see her hit the runway as I find her a great talent, gorgeous face, great body and amazing walk – she really does light up the clothes. I hope that she walks in other shows this fashion week.
