Instantly as you enter the catwalk hall you know that you are in for a treat and something a bit different as there was a grass catwalk with fruit bushes either side, a country twang backing track and an orchestra setting up in the corner. Of course it could only be Prophetik designed by Jeff Garner, who last year stunned everyone with opening the show with a horse, and this year he took us all into his wonderful world with the fabulous Hogslops bluegrass band.
The ‘Midnight Garden’ collection showcased a feminine romantic Southern charm with dip dyed floor length ball gowns, bloomers, a-line tea dresses, laced boots, ruffles, hooded tunics, waistcoats and tailored jackets – all in eco-conscious fabrics such as hemp silk, linen, organic cotton and reclaimed leather. This collection is all in the exquisite details from the eco-fabrics to the use of beaded leather ropes, delicate lace and antique buttons.
The models all went down the catwalk in a gorgeous muted colour palette of ivory and oatmeal, mixed in nicely with pops of indigo, lavendar, copper, raspberry and aqua shades. Which complemented the romantic feel to the clothing and styling by Rebekah Roy, and whimsical hair that Toni & Guy created with messy fishtail braids, with the look finished off nicely with Swarovski crystals decorating the eyes.
It is the energy of the show which made it such a delight, ending with us all clapping along to the closing music of that vibrant band. I loved the sacrificial maiden vibe alongside the layered military look for the men, which kind of reminded me of the flashbacks of Bill in True Blood before he became a vampire. My friend said it was like a vintage gypsy fairytale and I think she might be right. Gorgeous clothing and a wonderful theatrical show that I am so glad I was invited to.
