This week Kurt Geiger hosted their spring/summer 2011 collection with a gorgeous spectacular of shoes suspended from the ceiling. The theme stemmed around ‘Birds of Paradise’ and centre around this great quote from Yves Saint Laurent:
“I like dull by day, because I find that the light of Paris is ill-suited to bright colours, but at night I want women to be like birds of paradise.” YSL, Elle, 1977
The most perfect quote to showcases the two installations.
For night there were feathers and tropical colours, real clash of techinicolour dreams. I really loved all the statement platforms wedges in colour-blocking colours, but the ones with added embellishments are simply divine. There were a lot of heels that seemed to be a nostalgic node to the seventies, with their care free attitude for dancing and fun, the colour combinations of sunset strip day-glo heels are going to be hot come summer, and stacked super high wedges will be all the rage.
I can promise you this – orange is going to be everywhere next seasons and this makes me so happy.
Alongside the glorious bright shades and gravity-defying platforms, there are some amazing summer ‘day’ shoes. The golden desert-pale tones work perfectly in leather and canvas shoes – with espadrilles and I so excited by all the t-bar flats. I love the excitement of the night but come summer I am going to be hitting up Kurt Geiger for super comfortable flats and wedges.
Kurt Geiger also spelt out their top trends for SS11:
- Technicolour Dreams: with shades of fuschia, amethyst, magenta, coral red, emerald, cobalt blue, saffron yellow and tangerine yellow. Just think gorgeous summery colours in platform heels and sleek lines – to let the colour do all the talking.
- Sunset Strip Day-Glo: Neon worked the runway and KG are saying that everyone should have something neon next season and I agree!! I loved their nude tones teamed with neon heels – gorgeous.
- Rebel Rockers: Killer kitten heels worked in psychedelic leathers, python and leopard prints, trimmed with metal studs. I love that KG have named some of their shoes: Lethal, Elvis, Elton, and Extreme to give you the idea of what to expect.
- Le Smoking: A nod to yesterday’s glamour of Sobranie’s Black Russians with their iconic gold filter, cigarette heels and glittering metallics – worked perfectly for night and day. Just think uber-glamour!
- Flower Show: Flower accessories have been seen in many collections, but for KG think oversized flower corsages as part of the bold colour block trend. I love everything about this trend.
- A Whiter Shade Of Pale: The all-white fashion trend was huge on the SS11 runways and KG has worked various shades of white and off-whites together, mixing tones and texture – from newly whitened leopard to chalky snake.
