Christmas is only four days, whoop whoop, and if you’ve already bought and wrapped your presents, the next stress on the to-do list is putting together an elegant, and Instagram-worthy Christmas table. I started thinking about this last week, so, of course, I turned to Pinterest, anytime I want to get ideas it’s my first port of call, and I found so much inspiration I thought I would share to make the family get-together a little less stressful.
For me, I’m a good baker, not a great cook, I leave that to my husband, I instead like to contribute to the Christmas meal by dressing the dining table. Each year I opt for a colour theme, we’ve done monochrome, multicoloured where each plate was different it was like a pop art Christmas day, and we’ve done winter white, this year is all about red with a hint of green and gold. I’m basically taking inspiration from my new Christmas Sophie Conran plates.
We all know that the true centrepiece of any Christmas day is the dinner itself, but with it being such a special day it is worth taking that extra time to dress the table with a few festive touches. That might be the crockery itself, like my Sophie Conran beauties, a few statement candles, beautiful foliage, a scattering of Christmas decorations, or a grand festive display like your own winter wonderland complete with a sprinkling of snow.
For me, I love a winter wonderland theme as it is so easy to achieve. Gather a few reindeer ornaments, save some trimmings off your tree to work as a table runner, gets some off-cuts of wood to act as place mats, add a few pinecones which you can spray silver or gold, add a handful of jewelled baubles into a vase with some twinkly lights, a sprinkle of fake snow, and then add a few grand candelabras to finish off an elegant-yet-fun Christmas table.
The thing about Christmas table settings is that you can be a little more creative, there is no right or wrong, just whatever works best for you, your day, and your table. I love that metallics like silver and gold creates a classic feel, and looks great when paired with crisp white line, while monochrome adds a more modern vibe, and don’t be afraid of adding colour, which could be easily achieved by adding a few brightly coloured Christmas crackers and party favours. Just remember it should be fun, not stressful, and sometimes simple table settings make the most impact. For instance, lots of tealights placed on a metallic runner is simple and easy to do and makes a beautiful centrepiece.
