I know everyone gets excited about big designer high street collaborations like Balmain, Lanvin, and Versace for H&M, for me I’m more interested in those emerging talents that are being placed in the spotlighted by retailers, I love how it catapults them into the mainstream and gets them noticed. It used to be Topshop who championed London Fashion Week designers, do you remember their collaborations with Mary Katrantzou, Christopher Kane, and JW Anderson, which was my all-time favourite, well it seems that River Island has taken on their work to support emerging talent with their latest designer collab with London-based quirky knitwear label Sibling.
Part of River Island’s Design Forum, Sibling has joined Zoe Jordan, Jean-Pierre Braganza, Eudon Choi and Georgia Hardinge to become the latest emerging fashion label to collaborate with the high street retailer, and I can’t wait for their fun, quirky “pretty in pink” collection to hit stores. Sadly it won’t be with us until February, but I just had to share these illustrations of the collection, seriously if the pieces are this cute in real life I will be buying it all.
I love that the collection has been inspired by Ellen Von Unwerth photographs, Brigitte Bardot, daisies and, of course, Sibling’s crazy way of putting knits, sequins and denim together, as well as the fact that this capsule line won’t cost the earth, no piece will be more than £55, with prices starting at £15, so expect to see a quick sell-out on this carefree and fun collection.
Sibling co-designer Cozette McCreery describes this collection as a “thank you” to fans, who may not otherwise be able to afford to purchase pieces from their mainline, and that they just want the person wearing Sibling to “feel confident and happy” and have fun wearing it. This is why they are one of my favourite emerging London-based fashion labels, and I’m so pleased I have a Barbie all dressed up in Sibling sitting in my office.
I think the ditsy pink cropped jacket is a winner, as is the matching skirt, I wonder if it will be warm enough to wear for February’s London Fashion Week. I’m also hoping that those pompom headbands are also going into production and not just for show on these illustrations as they are so cute. But top of my shopping list is going to have to be the blue and pink knitted two-piece. I really can’t believe that this collection is going to sell between £15 and £55.
I might have got you a little excited, sorry I had to share, but February will come around quickly and then we can all join the Sibling family!!!
The collection will launch with a short film during London Fashion Week and then goes on sale from February 22 in selected River Island stores here in the UK and abroad, as well as online of course, and I promise that I will share more of the line closer to the launch date.
