I was told once by an editor when I was an intern (many moons ago) that when it comes to leopard print you have to treat it like black and that’s really stuck with me. It sounds kind of wrong doesn’t it, but I do feel that when you think of leopard print as a neutral, rather than a print in your wardrobe it makes it easier to style and less likely that the animal print will appear trashy.
I love how leopard print has that ability to upgrade any look, add a pair of animal print boots to a pair of jeans and a blazer and instantly looks smarter, add it with a pop of red like I’ve done and it looks sophisticated for date night with my husband, and when teamed with an all-black outfit it really does elevate the whole look.
However, finding a great leopard print piece is hard, especially when you are looking for a coat, I’ve been wanting a statement animal print coat for a while, they are either too fluffy, which doesn’t work for me, or the colour tone is too gold, or I couldn’t settle on the style, well, that was until I discovered this beauty sent to me by Morrisons from their new Nutmeg women’s collection, yep, this beauty of a coat is a supermarket bargain.
Wearing a leopard print coat with red is one of my go-to style choices when I’m looking for a quick and easy look, while still being glam and stylish, as the beauty about leopard print is that it doesn’t matter really what you wear underneath, however, when you add red it just adds a little more wow factor, especially when paired with black accessories.
To keep the focus on the coat and the red lace skirt, which FYI is an absolute steal on Asos, less than £15, and trust me this beauty will work with so many looks come spring, just imagine it with a stripy top and trainers. OK, got a little distracted then didn’t I, back to the accessories, I added black boots, bag and belt as I just felt that black really pulls this whole look together.
Can we also take about these incredible Timberland boots I found on Jake Shoes, I’d been looking for a classic pair of tall boots that could be worn everyday, whether with over skinny jeans, with skirts or teamed with an oversized jumper that would be perfect for the winter months, as all my other tall boots seem to be suede. Plus these boots are so comfortable and warm I think I’m going to wearing these a lot this winter.
