If you haven’t already fallen for on the hiking boots trend, do, and do it quick, before all the good ones go. Seen on the catwalks at Gucci, Off-White and Louis Vuitton, there is something pretty special about these durable chunky boots, and I’m pleased for once that functionality is winning through.
I’m a lover of chunky boots worn with a pair of jeans and even a pretty floaty dress, so for me, hiking boots make a lot of sense, and I’m totally loving the colour pop laces, the treaded soles and suede touches.
While we’d all love a pair of Off-White hiking boots reworked by Virgil Abloh with bright yellow laces, at nearly £700 they are definitely an investment purchase, but for a similar textured-leather, chunky tread and silver eyelets I’ve found a great pair by Emu Australia, the Dongara, which are less than £150. These beauties not only come with red laces, which adds something a little extra to the trend, but they are also waterproof and are lined with cosy Australian Merino wool. Can’t get away from wanting yellow laces, just buy a pair off Amazon or eBay and swap them in.
Styling Hiking Boots
While we still might be in the midst of winter, hiking boots aren’t going anywhere and they will make the perfect transitional piece, wear now with jeans and a duster coat for a rugged smart look, or with a pair of denim dungarees or how about with a longer length maxi skirt and a chunky knit, and come summer counterbalance the rugged feel of the boots with a cute floral maxi dress, a slinky slip, or with a fun and sexy mini skirt and slogan tee.
