I have many obsessions, only eating full peanuts, stacking the dishwasher in just the right way, as well as needing to be the first to flick through any magazine, and I can’t help myself when it comes to buying cute dresses, skirts, tops, generally anything cute with stars on. So you can imagine how quick I added this beauty of a star dress from Nobody’s Child, it is so comfortable on, I love the colourful stars, the long sleeves and that sexy side split – I also love how versatile it is, wear with biker boots or with strappy heels or even trainers.
My love affair with stars goes quite far back, to when I was younger, and I had those glow in the dark stars on my bedroom ceiling, they were magical, and I was, still am fascinated by the mystery of celestial objects in the night sky, the twinkle, those streaks of light, and trying to identify constellations. It is why my Christmas present off my mum this year was the best ever – a telescope.
When it comes to fashion, for me stars are always in fashion, but in recent years designers including Valentino, Dior, Chanel and Christopher Kane have all been been inspired by space references and astrological motifs. For me, cosmic elements scattered across dresses and knitwear is my absolutely favourite, even better if that dress is of the tulle variety!
How to embrace the star-life, well you can do like me and go for an all-over star print, add a little intergalactic style with your jewellery, or how about a cosmic star-embellished bag? There are so many options to shine like a star, and there is something timeless as well as little kitsch about a star print, it is like florals and polka dots, you will always be able to rewear, just dress up the other elements of your look to fit the season or current trends.
If I had to pick one star loving piece of fashion, other than this fab dress, which is so dreamy and flattering, it would be this gorgeous Self-Portrait midi dress, if you have a wedding it would be a great option. I’m in love with the print as well as the navy colour and I do love a good pleat!
