I love a good wedding, more so since my own wedding, but the search for the perfect wedding guest outfit is one of the most painful shopping experiences ever. I’ve done a few posts over the years, sharing tips on what to look for when wedding guest outfit shopping, what I wore to a summer wedding, as well as not being afraid to wear colour for a winter wedding.
As I’m off to the wedding this weekend, I thought I would share the five shops that never fail when I’m shopping for the perfect wedding guest outfit – as well as my favourite looks now in store, to help take the pressure off your wedding search. I have picked out more than 50 looks below, all under £200, that will work for a variety of wedding’s, from a formal garden party to a church wedding, a beach/destination wedding, as well as a glamorous affair. I promise you will find your perfect wedding guest outfit within these fab picks!
There are a lot of things to think about when wedding guest shopping – what’s the style of wedding, is it formal, is it relaxed, will you be dancing a lot, what’s the weather going to be like, is there a dress code?
I think it is because you have to take into consideration so many things that it can seem overwhelming. If the wedding your attending is in spring or summer, you will have it easier as all the shops are geared to offering occasional wear, a wintery wedding is a little tricker, especially if you don’t want sparkly Christmas outfits, as that’s not always wedding appropriate.
So I’ve started to do my wedding guest shopping early, I knew I have a wedding in April and August, both require different looks, but I’ve bought them both in the last month so not to miss out, so all I have to do is figure out the accessories and I do feel so much better for it.
Taking the stress out of shopping for a wedding guest outfit
Shopping early also made me realise that I have five shops that I always go to first when looking for an affordable wedding guest look – Boden, Asos, Topshop, Baukjen and H&M. Seriously, out of the last five weddings, my dress has come from one of these stores, and this weekend’s is no different as I will be wearing this gorgeous Ada dress from Boden, I fell in love with the green hue as well as the posy bloom print and those blouson sleeves.
For me, a wedding outfit has to be versatile, I can’t just waste money on a look for one day, so I always pick dresses that I can rewear, and I love that this Boden look will also work so well with white trainers in the summer, biker boots in the autumn, and underneath a chunky knit in the winter.
Wedding Guest Edit: Where I Shop
I love Boden’s range of dresses and jumpsuits, they always have a contemporary flair about them, with vibrant hues and playful prints, as well as flattering cuts. It isn’t the cheapest brand on my list, but do what I do, wait for a sale, I bought my Ada dress when they were having a 40% off event a few weeks ago, they do lots of offer so keep an eye out.
H&M is always perfect for a summery wedding, they do such pretty flouncy dresses, pastel hues and lightweight options. The best bit I think all my picks come in at under £80 which is brilliant.
Baukjen is fast becoming one of my favourite places to shop, I was lucky enough to meet the husband and wife team behind the amazing brand, and love their philosophy on quality and offering timeless statements, this is someone to come for investment pieces that you will wear year-in-year-out. I’m obsessed with their jeans and their dresses, and they are some really cute wedding guest options.
For me, Topshop isn’t a regular place to shop, but if I’m going to a wedding where I’m only invited to the evening party reception or a wedding that’s a little more party than traditional I think it has some great options at a great price point, my three favourites are all under £55.
Hand’s up who else scrolls for hours on Asos, it is both a blessing and a curse that it has so many options, but I do love that as well as having its own labels it offers third-party brands like Warehouse, Boohoo, and Needle & Thread, as well as a wide variety of styles in petite, tall and curvy, so you will find something you like here. Plus, I love that as a premier customer I can have it the next day.
My top three Asos picks: Asos Design Tall pleated midi dress with lace inserts in spot print // Asos White long sleeve midi dress in spot print // Asos Design botanical floral bubble sleeve seamed midi dress
