I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my summer style, how I’ve changed over the years. I used to go crazy buying up a new summer wardrobe, wear things once, or sometimes never at all, purchasing items in the hopes that they would be perfect for my holiday. Those options were generally trend-led, not my normal style, and more often than not very unflattering.

This year I’ve been rethinking my fashion choices, not only with regards ‘what’s my style’ the ongoing question I continually ask myself, but also waste, I want items in my wardrobe that I love, wear again-and-again, and most importantly are comfortable. Ha ha, I do sound old don’t I, but I’ve come to realise I always love and feel happier in any outfit when I’m comfortable.

This has led to my obsession with denim shorts and skirts, I had way too many to count, switched out for light cotton maxi and midi dresses, you know the ones that keep you cool and are easy-to-throw on, no matter the occasion, and look perfect teamed with comfortable sandals, and a colour-pop bag. A resurgence for comfortable plain T-shirts, as well as accessories I’ve forgotton over the years.

When it comes to summer style dresses, I have a number on rotation, my Nobody’s Child favourites, my Shrimps x Warehouse cutie – I love the sea print, as well as my ever-faithful Cath Kidston beauties, adorned with adorable Disney prints, and then there is my latest find, my turquoise floral print button-up maxi from Angeleye, which I have worn like this with a colour-matching bag and a pop of colour on my sandals, with a straw hat and bag, dressed up for dinner in Paris with high heels and a bright clutch, as a cover-up over my swimsuit at the beach, and I’ve even worn unbuttoned past the waist over denim shorts for a friends barbecue. Seriously, so many options from one great dress.

A Summer Style Capsule Wardrobe

After comfort, versatility is the key to my rotating summer style, as well as my dresses, my capsule wardrobe has included a couple of cute pleated skirts, relaxed organic T-shirts from white to khaki, a number of go-to blazers for those chilly nights, and a pair of boyfriend jeans, I really haven’t been feeling skinny jeans lately.

Everything fits on one rail, can be worn in various ways, and can be dressed up and down with the help of my many incredible bags, shoes, belts, bags and sunglasses that I’ve bought over the years. Accessories really have played a huge part in rethinking my summer style. I really have been having fun getting to use all my bags, as I have a lot of them.

A bag you might recognise a lot from my Instagram is this beautiful Cambridge Satchel Company, the stunning Sage Green version of its now iconic Daisy, inspired by the 1960’s era and I basically want it in every colour. What I love about Cambridge Satchel other than its vintage styles, has to be the quality, their bags really are always 100% leather and are made in the UK, and I love the colours they come out with, this green is a little different and has really reworked a number of my outfits this summer.

Completing any look this summer has been like three pairs of shoes, white trainers, because what doesn’t work with white trainers, a black pair of block heels, and these Coral ‘Rapid Stinger’ sheepskin-lined Emu Australia sandals, which don’t get any more comfortable than this. I’m a huge Emu Australia fan, and these sandals have been my go-to pair so much so that my feet have tan stripes, which means I have to wear make-up when in other shoes, much to my husband’s amusement. I also think all shoes should have an Emu memory foam footbed and you can’t go wrong with a pop of colour on your feet to rework an outfit.

Has your summer style been one constant rotation?
