One good thing that has come out of lockdown is getting to grips with actually doing a daily workout routine. I’ve worked from home for a number of years and while I have a gym membership I have never been able to stick to a regular exercise schedule, until now.
I’ve struggled for a while when it comes to exercise, yes I want to lose weight, yes I want to be generally fitter, be more toned, and look and feel better in my favourite clothes, but for some reason, my lack of confidence started to hold me back, especially when it came to working out at the gym.
I’m not going to lie, it took me a whole month of lockdown for the working out at home to really spark, I went through yoga courses, I tried dance classes, even those Joe Wicks PE classes, but nothing really settled with me, and then I discovered Bailey Brown and her incredible beach backdrops on YouTube.
At first, I was a little worried that Bailey was a little too cheerful, no one needs that on a workout, but actually doing her YouTube classes I found her upbeat nature encouraging, and her workouts actually felt more live than pre-recorded.
Embracing the five-minute workout
So, five minutes doesn’t sound a lot, but the way Bailey focuses on a specific body part, such as inner thighs or your core, you really start to feel the burn, and I’m telling you, one five minute workout is never enough, I’m constantly clicking through to the next video as you feel so good when you finish one.
For me, I found anything more than 20 minutes hard to stick with, I’d get bored, zone out partway through, but with five minutes of intense exercise you really don’t have the time to do anything other than the task at hand.
I always use the first one as a warm-up, number two is the second targeted video to legs, abs, butt, whatever I’ve targeted that day, and the third is to push myself, generally the five-minute fat burner (workout five below).
With that in mind, I’ve created a workout library on YouTube and placed all my favourite videos in there so they are easy to find, making sure I have at least two abs, two thighs, two butt, and two arm classes so I can make sure over the course of a week I’ve had a full-body workout.
15 minutes a day doesn’t sound like a lot but it really makes me feel amazing.
I think what I have loved the most is how low-impact her exercises are, that they don’t require any equipment, and the fact that she is right, you really can do anything for five minutes, including work your arse off!!!
I’m telling you, if you want to reset your relationship with exercise – subscribe to Bailey Brown’s YouTube channel – as she has 35 five-minute classes on her channel for free, so you won’t get bored in a hurry.
