For a while now I’ve been finding Instagram a chore, rather than the joy it is supposed to bring. For me, it has gone from being a creative outlet into only thinking about how many likes each picture got, watching my follower count, and comparing myself to others thriving on this platform, while frankly, I didn’t.
While I love the content I produce on my main Instagram account, there has also been a fixation on the negative, and to be honest, life is too short. Lockdown showed that a lot, you have to do things that make you happy, and purely posting outfits, just doesn’t, so I’ve decided to create @ASlowCountryLife, a new space that will be more like a visual diary, a snapshot into my life, as it is now, and much more representative of the content I produce on here, my little corner of the internet.
I did start mixing up my content on @ADanielleLife during lockdown, but with anything on Instagram, changing your content seems to penalise your reach, so I thought, why not just start again. I’m not going full nuclear and deleting my other account, I was just thinking that I could leave that one for fashion and work reasons, so my new one to be purely fun and creative.
The longterm goal is to have just one Instagram account, I want a platform that is about seeking connections, not validation, where I can create a community that can be part of my current journey, embracing my countryside living, my new found love of gardening, baking, and refurbishing our house, basically all the things I felt that I couldn’t really share on my @ADanielleLife account, because they never got the likes.
So, @ASlowCountryLife is all about less pressure and more joy, as well as a chance to share my current passions, life has changed a lot since I first joined Instagram and I just want to go back to being creative, sharing joy, things I love and having fun and I hope you will like the new approach as well.
My New Instagram Account – A Slow Country Life
Expect lots of flowers, I’m obsessed with growing and arranging, there will be a lot of cake, baking has become my saviour during lockdown, and of course, expect more from Falcon and Peggy, because they are so cute, and a huge part of my countryside life.
There will also be more house content, I’m always asked to share more, but for some reason, I’ve hesitated in the past, I suppose it is because our forever home renovation is a very slow one, we do things as we can afford them, rather than the Insta way all at once. The garden will also be a big focus, especially as in 2021 there are so many garden-related plans in the works – a cutting garden, a greenhouse, a courtyard, an orchard, as well as cottage garden – so many projects, which of course I will share on here as well.
I’ve been doing the new account for a few weeks now, I’m even up to 200 followers, which has definitely surprised me a little, as I haven’t promoted on my main account. But this account isn’t about likes or followers, it is about engaging, enjoying the creative journey and discovering likeminded people.
I have to be honest, this account already feels so much more me, and the people closest to me have said the same, there is a calmness about the content, and rather than it being a chore, I’m finding it easier to plan, post in the moment, and be happy with the picture, rather than worrying about how it looks against other peoples content.
