If you live in West Wales, first up I’m jealous, what an amazing corner of the UK, and secondly, you have the best brunch spot in CRWST, located in Cardigan, and I’m wishing that I lived closer to go every weekend!!!
On our weekend to the area, we discovered CRWST at Poppit Sands, a tiny cafe serving up the best doughnuts, just head over to my Instagram to see what I mean, after an amazing dog walk on the beach. I have to be honest, I just couldn’t stop thinking about them, I needed more doughnuts, and that’s when I discovered CRWST had a larger cafe in Cardigan, so of course, I insisted we go for brunch before heading home.
What I loved about CRWST, other than the fact that the Welsh name translates to crust, which I thought was super cute, is the fact that both cafes are dog friendly, the menu is incredible, using locally sourced seasonal meat, fruit and veg and organic dairy, and the portions are very generous. Plus, who doesn’t love an all-day breakfast, especially when it includes pancakes.
What to eat at CRWST
The menu has all the classics, from a full Welsh brekkie with bacon, sausage, mushroom, tomato, fried egg and beans to avocado on toast, bacon roll and eggs on toast with added trimmings such as salmon, avocado, and black pudding. There is also a great veggie brekkie with a chestnut and mushroom sausage patty, a halloumi burger, hash browns with truffles and CRWST’s special homemade slow-cooked beans, served on toast with smashed avocado and pickled chillies.
If you are like me and fancy something sweet for brunch, CRWST also has a pancake stake and French toast on its menu.
Prices are reasonable, from £3 for toast with jam or marmalade to £12 for its eggs Benedict, plus, it has lots of extras that you can add on throughout the menu to make your brunch experience as personal as possible.
Dog friendly brunch in Cardigan, West Wales
I of course went for the pancakes, I couldn’t resist. As it was before Christmas they had gingerbread maple syrup on, along with Lotus Biscoff spread, banana and raspberries – plus, look at them – they were stacked high. You could have also opted for pancakes with berries, yoghurt, granola and honey, which also sounded lovely.
The pancakes were incredible, super fluffy and thick and tasted amazing. I also loved the gingerbread maple syrup, I wouldn’t have said no to more of that, and the fruit balanced out the Lotus Biscoff spread. I would be lying if I said I finished my plate, I gave it a go try, but this was a huge portion and great value for £8.50.
My husband opted for the full Welsh brekkie with added black pudding, he also shared his locally-produced sausage with the dog, which went down very well. While he loved all of his brunch, apparently it was cooked to perfection, he did have huge praise for the beans, and the fact it also came with a round of toast.
There is something special about this cafe. I just adored the atmosphere, the industrial decor, the fact that Falcon could join us for brunch, and how super friendly and helpful the staff were.
I also want to shout out again to its doughnuts, I know I’m obsessed, but the lemon meringue ones will never leave your memories! Plus CRWST really does an amazing hot chocolate as well.
Next time I’m in west Wales, I’m booking a table at CRWST and stocking up on doughnuts!
