When it came to what worked in 2021, I would have to say my journal. I found it a comfort, a source of joy, and much needed safe space. I use my journal as an organiser, to keep track of important dates, events and finances, as well as a space to capture my thoughts, brainstorm, and scrapbook my ideas. It brings the chaos of my mind together.
I love so many kinds of journalling, from long-form to using journal prompts, nature journaling, to noting what I’m grateful for, as well as writing poetry, collating recipes and quotes, and listing all the movies, TV shows and podcasts I want to enjoy.
There is something restorative about filling a blank page, but knowing how to start can be a little daunting. So, if you want to kickstart 2022 with intention, I have some great journal prompts for you.

To kickstart 2022, you first must say goodbye to 2021, so ask yourself:
- What are your three standout memories/wins from 2021?
- What do you need to leave in 2021?
- Do you have any regrets from the past year?
- What have you learnt about yourself?
- What would you have done differently?
- Who has had the biggest impact on your life this past year?

Goodbye 2021, hello 2022 with these journal prompts:
- After everything you learnt last year, what’s one piece of advice you would give yourself for 2022?
- 5 goals you would like to achieve in 2022
- What do you want more of this year?
- One thing you are looking forward to this year?
- What is one self-care habit you would like to make part of your routine?
- What would you like to try in 2022?
- Choose one word to capture and spearhead your year ahead, and share why.

The easiest way to get journaling daily
Done with the prompts and still needing a little helping hand to get started in your journal every day? Well, find a quiet spot, grab a cuppa and a biscuit, take a deep breath and just let your pen do the talking.
Try filling one page with whatever you fancy. This is similar to the ‘Morning Pages’ concept from Julia Cameron’s ‘The Artist’s Way,’ where you write three pages each morning, which I like to do before I’ve even gotten out of bed. But if three pages seems a little much, just work your way up to it.
Two other great daily journal prompts is to describe your day, write down the highs, the lows, and everything in between, and share three things or people you are grateful for. There is something so cathartic about a braindump at the end of the day.
Just remember, when it comes to journaling, there is no right or wrong way – just your way!
