You may have seen me mention a few times about my desire to use my wardrobe more wisely, I’m trying, and sometimes failing to just invest in classic, timeless pieces this year. But the idea of wearing items in my wardrobe that I don’t often wear is how today’s post came about. I thought it would be fun to transform my Biba sequin maxi dress into three daywear looks, granted very sparkly daywear looks, but I really do think they are so doable.
There’s something about a sequin maxi dress, we all have a least one don’t we in our wardrobes, bought for some fancy event, generally around Christmas time, or a very posh wedding, but when else do you wear it? Well, I’ve decided that sequins should be worn in the daytime, as come on, who doesn’t love a few sparkles. So, I’ve got three great looks to inspire you to dig out your sequin maxi and shine bright like a disco ball to do your weekly shop. OK, food shopping might be stretching it a little, but if you are out for a date with your other half or lunch with the girls I think these looks would totally work. I may have worn the first look to munch burgers with my husband and loved every second. What can I say sequins make me smile.
Sequin Maxi Dress – Look 1, the 90s revival
My favourite look first. I’ve given my maxi dress a 90s makeover, adding a white tee underneath, silver trainers, white sunglasses and a fun Mickey Mouse bag. I actually think I wore this look when I was a teenager to sixth form college, yep that’s the sort of teenager I was. To me, this look could be worn with any spaghetti strapped maxi dress, but a sequin maxi dress it really makes a statement look, which I think totally works with metallic Converse trainers and a fun bag.
This bag is such a gem, first of all, can we all please give it to Primark for bringing us vintage Mickey Mouse, it reminds me of the Mickey that graced my watch when I was little. But even more thanks has to go for the price, this beauty of a bag was only £9, yep, less than a tenner, three coffees at Starbucks, and I’m kind of obsessed with it. I think this will be my pal a lot this coming fashion week as it is just so much fun.

Sequin Maxi Dress – Look 2, The Winter Cover-Up
What I love about this dress is that with its thin straps and close fit it can easily be worn underneath a jumper, the chunkier the better I think to make it a great daytime look, and I love this sleeveless knit from Oasis that I snagged last year I think in the sales. Teamed with the belt, strappy black heels and the tiniest bag I own, my gorgeous Anya Hindmarch Tiny Tim this really makes a great day-to-evening look. Plus, I love how the grey looks against the navy and black shimmer of this sequin dress-come-skirt.

Sequin Maxi Dress – Look 3, Trying To Ce Cool
OK, so I’m not cool, but this is my attempt at just thrown on this look, because, you know, why the hell not!!! For me, I love sequin skirts teamed with vintage rock tops, I couldn’t find one of those in my wardrobe, so this Star Wars beauty had to do. Either opt for a cropped version, you still want to see your waist and the sparkles, or do as I have and tie a knot in it to nip in your silhouette. Add a bit of edge with biker boots, trust me, you’ll feel comfortable, cool and fun all at the same time. Sunglasses are kind of optional if we ever get any more sun this year.
