When it comes to summer shoes, I have a rotation of about five different styles, which practically cover all kinds of summer activity – a Birkenstock style, trainers, a cool platform, the casual, goes with anything kind of shoe, and the funky fuzzy pair!!!
I know, I could probably add a strappy heel, espadrilles, and even a mule – but these are the five shoes I’m loving right now and I wanted to share – especially as they are from some of my favourite brands including Emu Australia, Toms and Welligogs.
First up – these incredible Kickers ‘Knox Lo’ buckle sandals that have become my go-to summer shoes thanks to its chunky platform sole and comfortable moulded footbed. Seriously these beauties are crafted to go with any look – from a cute summer dress to jeans – plus they also work well when worn with socks to change up your look.
I would have to say that everyone needs a pair of Toms in their life – especially the Alpargata, for its easy slip on-and-off design. These are a great flat to have in any capsule wardrobe, as they are not only very comfortable, but sometimes even in summer you don’t want to get your toes out or wear trainers, and that’s where these Toms come in handy.
These are the Earthwise Alpargata, which means they are 100% vegan and the canvas upper textile blend has been made with majority jute, an eco fibre that uses fewer chemicals and less water than traditional fibres to grow. So comfortable, easy to style and also sustainable!
Also, did I mention that you can get the Toms Alpargata in all the colours you can think of, as well as a few prints – so there is an option for everyone.
Next up, the fun, colourful and comfortable pair of trainers, sorry US folks, sneakers! This summer I’ve gone for these Reebok x The Animals Observatory collaboration, which technically was for children but I was lucky to get an adult-sized pair and they are incredible.
First off, why has no one thought to have a stopper on laces before – I’m all for not having to tie my laces, secondly, hello the cutest colour scheme – I love the yellow, pink, lilac and red together – the contrasting textures and colours are super fun and makes the perfect summer shoe.
These also might be the most comfortable pair of Reeboks I’ve even had – the insole in these is insane.
I feel bad including as I can’t find the adult versions online – but trust me if you have tiny children buy them these!
For the ultimate flat, I have the Welligogs ‘Safari Slides’ with a cowhide design on a natural cork footbed. These are like Birkenstocks but easier to break in, actually, from the first wear I found them comfortable thanks to the soft suede insert, the espadrille bottom with rubber sole. The sliders also have adjustable buckles to get the perfect fit.
These are those comfy sandals that you slide on and slide off in the garden while relaxing, carry while you wander down the beach, and reach for when you are off shopping as they are so comfortable and easier to wear.
Not a fan of the cowhide, other styles available include Tiger, Leopard and Zebra.
For my final go-to summer shoes, I’ve gone for fun and slightly fugly, with my Emu Australia ‘Wobbegong’ slipper/slide made with 100% Australia sheepskin and an amazing chunky shark teeth serrated outsole. These slides are fun and comfortable with added grip – so you can wear them nearly anywhere.
OK, these shoes will split opinion, but hey I’m totally on board the ugly shoe trend, I’m telling you comfort rules over everything else. But I’m going, to be honest, these Wobbegong’s aren’t ugly – they are fun and incredible to wear. If you haven’t tried Emu’s summer styles you have to – they will change your life.
